PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated optical fiber ribbon branching method and tool that can easily and safely branch optical fibers, and also to provide a coated optical fiber ribbon. SOLUTION: In branching optical fibers 11 from a coated optical fiber ribbon (the ribbon) 10 in which a plurality of optical fibers 11 are integrated using a jacket 12, a wire 23 is pressed against the ribbon 10, or the wire 23 is relatively moved in the longitudinal direction of the ribbon 10, thereby scratching/stripping the jacket 12 to branch the optical fibers 11. For instance, the arrayed face of the optical fibers 11 is held from both sides and pressed against the wire 23.
