PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the fault of a display by preventing an unnecessary voltage from being applied to a liquid crystal at the time of turning on of a power source. SOLUTION: In the active matrix type liquid crystal display device 10A having a charge pump circuit 5 for generating an output voltage GVDD to put a TFT into an ON state by boosting an ordinary power source voltage VDD, the output frequency from a gate driver 4 is made higher in a rising period (c) of the output voltage GVDD than in an ordinary display period (b) and thereby the unnecessary voltage applied to a liquid crystal capacitor Clc is withdrawn to a data line 11 through the TFT so that the application of the unnecessary voltage to the liquid crystal capacitor Clc at the time of turning on of the power source is prevented.
