<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which produces a bright and clear display picture even when used in a large-screen liquid crystal display device and which has excellent durability, to provide the liquid crystal display element with the excellent durability, with reduced thickness and with reduced weight and further to provide the liquid crystal display device with excellent durability and with high display quality. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display element having polarizing plates disposed on the upper side and on the lower side of a liquid crystal cell wherein the polarizing plates comprise protective films disposed on the upper side and on the lower side of polarizing elements and a luminance improving film is attached on the lower side polarizing plate, the upper side protective film of the upper side polarizing plate is equipped with a transparent supporting body and an antireflection film with a low-refractive index layer, wherein the low-refractive index layer contains at least a kind of hollow structured inorganic fine particles of which the average particle size corresponds 30-100% of the thickness of the low-refractive index layer and the refractive index is 1.17-1.40. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
