A system and device for detecting the presence of an object on the threshold of a vehicle wheelchair lift. An embodiment of the invention provides a capacitance sensor for use in a vehicle wheelchair lift system. The sensor includes a first plate, a second plate, and a plurality of separators. The first plate is affixed to a baseplate of the vehicle wheelchair lift, and referenced to ground potential. The second plate is parallel to the first plate, and is in communication with a controller. The separators are constructed and arranged between the first plate and the second plate, and elastically couple the plates. Other embodiments may provide for alternative system and device configurations. |
