Method for control of automatic transmission unit when vehicle is moved in pushing mode, using adjustment of variator

When a vehicle with an automatic transmission unit is moved in a pushing mode in order to reduce the fuel consumption the engine has a speed reducing effect and the system can return to the fuel driven mode while the vehicle is still pushed. In order to avoid this situation the transmission unit can be controlled by performing the following steps of action: The actual speed of rotation is determined (2) and compared with the limit set for the return to the normal mode. If the speed is almost identical with the limit the unit is switched into a lower gear and the ratio is changed towards a temporary increase in speed (3).
