PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase response characteristic in autofocus. SOLUTION: A gate part extracts only a video signal equivalent to an AF detection contraction gate frame G11 (hereinafter, merely called a gate frame G11) smaller than a preset reference frame out of a video signal V1 (figure 9D). An AF detection part captures the high frequency component of the video signal equivalent to the gate frame G11 in timing of the gate frame G11, rectifies and detects it, and generates a focus evaluated value just after timing of the gate frame G11. An AF module fetches the generated focus evaluated value in timing of the AF module AF1 being the timing of the same video vertical synchronizing signal VP1 (figure 9E), generates an autofocus control signal LD2 bringing a focus position close to a focusing position (figure 9F), and moves a focus lens based on the signal LD2.
