The hydraulic power steering system includes a control valve assembly with two pressure reducing valves (3a,3b) which connects the working chambers (1a,1b) of a double actuating actuator (1) to the outlet side of a pump (4). A sensor records forces or moments transmitted between the steering wheel and steerable wheels of the vehicle. The pump is a pressure and/or flow regulated pump, the volume flow of which can be adjusted independently of the generated pressure. The pressure reducing valves are electromechanical 3-way valves, or hydraulically controlled 3-way valves.
