摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a transition alumina formed body exhibiting high specific surface area and high strength even after being kept at a high temperature. <P>SOLUTION: The manufacturing method is for manufacturing the transition alumina formed body by adding water into rehydrating alumina powder and forming to make a rehydrating alumina formed body, bringing the resultant rehydrating alumina formed body into contact with water at &ge;130&deg;C in the presence of alcohols to rehydrate and firing to obtain the transition alumina formed body having 0.5-20 mm particle diameter, &ge;100 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET specific surface area after being kept at 900&deg;C for 5 hr and &ge;80 daN/cm<SP>2</SP>collapse strength per unit cross sectional area.
