<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein it is difficult to carry out homogeneous illumination because an asymmetric characteristic of illumination light intensity distribution becomes large, owing to a large partiality of the light amount on one side of a light guiding plate, in the case of carrying out illumination by arranging a light pipe in a side-light type from one side of the light guide plate. <P>SOLUTION: In an illumination device having the light guide and a circulation type light pipe of a rectangular circular shape to uniformly irradiate by emitted light from a light source to a side face of the light guide plate by circulation wave guiding, prism group or minute dispersion structural body group are nearly point-symmetrically formed on at least on one face of two planes perpendicular to the incident side face from the circulation type light pipe to the light guide plate.
