PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tea leaf dryer avoiding local heating by a direct fire burner method and affect of temperature difference caused by a position in a drum. SOLUTION: This tea leaf dryer (A) has a rotary drum 2 in which a burner 3 for heating and drying is arranged in a condition of turning a heat sinking plane 3a almost downward nearly all over the length, a tea leaf meanderingly diffusing means repeatedly meanderingly diffusing tea leaves thrown into the rotary drum 2 in the whole area of an inner surrounding wall surface 2e accompanied with rotation, and a discharge port 13 opened on the trunk part 2a of the rotary drum 2 and discharging the tea leaves after a drying process with the reverse rotary motion of the rotary drum 2. The dryer also has a far and near movement adjusting mechanism B moving far and near the burner 3 for heating and drying to an opposite surface in the inner surrounding wall surface of the rotary drum 2, and a heat radiation direction turning mechanism C turning at angle of a heat radiation surface 3a to an opposite surface in the inner surrounding wall surface of the rotary drum 2.
