摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of suppressing impairment of signal waveform or cost increase while sustaining the optical output level stably in a semiconductor optical element and a module for optical communication. SOLUTION: As a semiconductor optical element, a light receiving element for monitor is provided by integration at a position shifted from a waveguide and the reflected light, scattering light or leakage component of laser light in the waveguide is received by the light receiving element for monitor and monitored. In order to obtain the reflected light or scattering light, interface of an optically active region and the regrowth region of a semiconductor medium is formed as a means for altering the optical path direction of laser light differently from the waveguide direction.
