PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester in which color tone, transparency and heat stability are kept and polycondensation rate is accelerated and production of foreign matters caused by a polycondensation catalyst is reduced and both of the quality of the polyester and the economical efficiency are satisfied by using the polycondensation catalyst containing metal components other than antimony, germanium and titanium-based metal components as main metal components, and to obtain the polyester and its products. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyester comprises using a water-soluble aluminum compound in which the content insoluble in water measured by a method described in the present specification is≤1000 ppm as an aluminum compound, in the method for producing the polyester in the presence of the polyester polycondensation catalyst composed of at least one kind of aluminum compound selected from the group consisting of aluminum compounds and at least one kind of phosphorus compound selected from the group consisting of phosphorus compounds.
