Handover of mobile communication terminal (5) in IP-based radio network(s) is carried out from first (2) to second radio access appliance (3). Data packets, received, or to be transmitted, are processed in several protocol layers, i.e. IP layer and DLC layer underneath.Processed data packets are buffer stored in medium access control (MAC) part-layer, contained by DLC layer. Data packets, processed in IP layer, are analysed for information for carrying-out handover for processing in DLC layer. Independent claims are included for IP-based radio network and communication appliance.
