ARTICLE WITH SELECTIVELY ACTIVATED ADHESIVE

An index card assembly (20) which allows selective adherence of an index card (20) to a mounting surface is disclosed. A base paper layer (21) of the index card (20) has a front side(22) and an opposite back side (24). The paper layer (21) has an upper edge (28) with a portion of the paper layer (21) removed to define a paper­less zone (42) which includes a gap (44) across the upper edge (28). A cover layer (50) having an outer face (52) and an inner face(54) is adhered by pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on its inner face(54) to the front side (22) of the paper layer(21). The cover layer (50) is aligned to cover the paperless zone (42) with a top of the cover layer (50) extending across the gap (44) of the paperless zone (42). The adhesive on the inner face (54) of the cover layer (50) is thus exposed across the paper zone on the back side (24) of the paper layer (21). The thickness (T) of the paper layer (21) prevents the adhesive from contacting a surface abutting the back side ( 24) of the paper layer (21) in the absence of the application of a threshold level of pressure against the outer face (52) of the cover layer (50).
