PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To elevate a breakdown voltage of a capacitor used with a thin polyester film as a dielectric, and to obtain a capacitor which is excellent in lamination when manufacturing a multilayer capacitor, and reduced in its variation such as a capacity change. SOLUTION: The biaxial orientation polyester film for a capacitor contains inactive particles, is of≤4μm in a thickness, and meets the requirements (a), (b) as shown in the following: (a) 1≤L1/L2≤1.2 where a long span of a gap portion which exists surrounding a single diffusion particle of a first particle diameter 1-5μm is L1 and its short span is L2, and (b) an area of a portion except a particle from the gap portion specified in (a) is 0.2-8 times as large as the area of particle portion.
