799,842. Primary batteries. SOC. DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES & DE TRACTION. Oct. 9, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955], No. 30763/56. Class 53. A deferred-action primary battery comprises positive sheet electrodes 2, negative sheet electrodes 3, absorbent sheet separators 4 and a tube 6 having apertures 10 through which the electrolyte passes to soak the sheets when the battery is primed. The tube 6 is plugged at one end and connected at the other to a source of electrolyte under pressure. A nut is threaded on the tube to compress the stack of electrodes and separators. The cells of the battery are separated by diaphragms 1, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride impregnated with silicone oil. The cells are shown connected in series by the metal strips 5. Alternatively, the strips may be used to connect the cells in parallel, Fig. 5 (not shown). A single tube 6 may be used to prime two separate batteries. Suitable electrode materials and electrolytes are stated to be nickel oxide and zinc with potassium hydroxide; cuprous chloride and magnesium with sodium chloride; carbon and zinc with chromic acid. |
