The instantaneous battery charging current is measured. Together with the measured current supplied to the vehicle wiring and consumer systems, this value is used to calculate the required idling speed. The method relates to an earlier disclosure cited as 102 57 024.8. An independent claim is included for the corresponding vehicle.
