PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image verification device for giving a user an index of assessing an amount reduction limit concerning the amount of data for verification which indicates the feature of each kind of data to be used for image verification. SOLUTION: The image verification device 100 generates two-dimensional vector Va<SB>i</SB>with the x and y-direction luminance gradients of the pixel of each position Ra<SB>i</SB>as components by correspondence to each one of N positions Ra<SB>i</SB>in a sample image, and generates a two-dimensional vector Vb<SB>j</SB>with the x and y-direction luminance gradients of the pixel of each position Rb<SB>j</SB>as components by correspondence to each one of M positions Rb<SB>j</SB>in a basic image. A verification part 160 determines whether the same object appears in both the images or not, based on the result of an arithmetic processing with the use of the pair of Va<SB>i</SB>and Ra<SB>i</SB>and the pair of Vb<SB>j</SB>and Rb<SB>j</SB>. An image deriving part 170 derives an image to be estimated as the original sample image, based on Va<SB>i</SB>, Ra<SB>i</SB>, and pixel data of one reference position in the sample image, displays it, and changes N in response to an indication from the user.
