An electrode for an alkaline accumulator having a thickness not greater than 1 mm., comprises a metal carrier plate supporting a body of sintered metal, an intermediate layer having a roughened surface being provided to obtain firm adherence between the carrier plate and sintered body. The intermediate layer may consist of the surface of the carrier roughened mechanically or by chemical action. Alternatively metal powder may be applied to the carrier and sintered to produce a rough intermediate layer to which the sintered body will firmly adhere. In another method the carrier is superficially oxidized before the sintered intermediate layer is applied. The intermediate layer may also be applied by spraying. Another method consists in applying copper powder or an alloy of copper and nickel to the carrier, then applying the metal to form the sintered body and raising the temperature to sinter the three layers.
