Backlight assembly for liquid crystal display device

A backlight assembly (1000) for a liquid crystal display (2000). A container (300) receives a prism light guide plate (LGP 200) which is provided between a reflecting sheet (500) and an optical diffusion sheet (600). An adhesive member (400) is used to attach the LGP to the bottom part (310) of the container (300). A lamp assembly (100) which produces heat, and a back cover (700) which conducts and emits the generated heat away (through an aperture (314) in the bottom part) are mounted in a sidewall (320a) of the container (300). Protrusions (332) on the sidewall (320a) prevent the LGP from moving toward the lamp assembly. Tapered ribs (312), which are provided between a plurality of apertures (314) in the bottom part of the container, support the reflecting sheet which is mounted in two sidewalls (320c,320d), without adhesive. <IMAGE>
