A coating composition comprising (A) 0.05 to 7 % by mass of a fluoro group-containing silicon compound or a hydrolysate thereof, (B) 5 to 65 % by mass of fine particles of the oxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Si, Al, Sn, Sb, Ta, Ce, La, Fe, Zn, W, Zr, In and Ti, (C) 10 to 80 % by mass of a specific silicon compound or a partial hydrolysate thereof, and (D) 0.1 to 60 % by mass of a compound which can react with an epoxy group or a silanol group, wherein the amount of the component (A) is based on the mass of the component (C), and the amounts of the components (B), (C) and (D) are based on the total mass of the components (A), (B), (C) and (D). <??>This composition provides to a plastic lens a hard coat layer which is free from a dyeing speck even when it is dyed after it is stored for a long period of time, experiences a small change in the color of a dye before and after storage, can be dyeable and has high hardness.
