A rod ignition coil has a primary and a secondary winding as well as a core assembly (100 which comprises a rod-shaped sheet-metal stack (12) of a ferromagnetic material, a covering (14) on a front face of the stack (12), a buffer (16) made of an elastic material and arranged on the second front face of the stack (12) and an encapsulation (18) of a plastics material. The buffer made of an elastic material is formed with at least one air entrance (22).
