The present invention refers to a numerical control unit having a monitoring system for detecting faults in cutting tools, which is flexibly programmed and configured. Said unit works under the wavelet mathematical theory, where the current signals of the engines are obtained by the output signal of the servo amplifiers of said three signals. A low pass filter is applied to the signals, which are processed for obtaining the resulting stress, the same being an indicator of the tool state. The resulting signal is processed by wavelets that provide eight coefficients, which are compared with the previous revolution, thereby obtaining an asymmetry value, if said value overpasses a predetermined value, the unit detects that the tool is damaged. The aforesaid information is sent to the CNC where the unit stops the process and emits an alarm sound for the operator to solve the problem.
