The system has a source emitting a polychromatic light beam in the direction of an imager. A color wheel (6) has colored segments having opposing characters and scrolled on an optical path to successively transmit or reflect the beam. The segments are distributed in the wheel in an order such that one of the segments for which human eye have high sensitivity is placed after the other segment along a scrolling direction.
