The invention disclosed is directed to a method of transmitting an electrica l signal to a target tissue to elicit a response in the target tissue. The method comprises the steps of generating a pulsed electromagnetic field and positioning, in the pulsed electromagnetic field, collagen fibres which occur naturally adjacent to the target tissue. The invention also discloses the use of pulsed electromagnetic field s to generate an electrical signal in collagen fibres. More particularly the invention discloses the use of pulsed electromagnetic fields to generate an electrical signal in collagen fibres for transmission of the electrical signal to a target tissue , particularly where the target tissue is musculoskeletal tissue.
