PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method for manufacturing an epoxy resin which exhibits excellent heat stability of its cured product and is useful for various composite materials, adhesives, coating materials, and the like. SOLUTION: This epoxy resin is obtained by glycidylating a condensed phenol which is represented by formula (1) (wherein R is H or a≤4C hydrocarbon chain; (m) is an integer of 0-5; and (n) is 1 or 2) and has≥70 area% tetraphenol represented by a specific chemical formula with an epihalohydrin.
