PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope cleaning device for an elevator capable of dispensing with periodic maintenance and cleaning a driving rope automatically without requiring troublesome costly work such as replacement of consumables. SOLUTION: This rope cleaning device is provided with the driving rope 11 wound around a sheave 10 of a hoisting machine 3, a car 14 and a counterweight 15 suspended in a shaft 1 through the driving rope 11 and ascending and descending by driving them by the hoisting machine 3, and a compressor 20 driven and operated by power of the hoisting machine 3. When the driving rope 11 runs by driving it by the hoisting machine 3, the compressor 20 is operated in synchronization with it. Compressed air is blown to the driving rope 11 by operating the compressor 20 to remove foreign matter such as powder dust, dust, rainwater adhering to the driving rope 11.
