<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and new storage battery with a long life and a high utilization rate, and to provide an electrode plate coating composition for the storage battery. <P>SOLUTION: The storage battery comprises at least an activator of a pole and aqueous solution of sulfuric acid as electrolyte liquid, and a carbon material is included in the activator of the pole. Preferably, carbon particles and/or graphite are used as the carbon material.
