<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring material for a color filter with which the reconciliation of the high contrast required for the color filter, the requirement characteristics, such as high lightness, and the assurance of stability with lapse of time is achieved. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the coloring material for the color filter includes a step (A) of supplying and dispersing a pigment composition containing a pigment, pigment derivative and liquid medium into a wet dispersing machine using media of≤ 0.3 mm diameter in grain size and if necessary, (B) a step of adding and mixing a monomer and/or resin to and/or with a dispersing element of the pigment composition obtained by the step (A).
