<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the driving of an actuator by determining whether a vehicle-specific control constant is recorded or not. <P>SOLUTION: An automatic leveling device comprises a motor 10 for tilting an optical axis of a head lamp 1 to the vertical direction of a vehicle body, a vehicle height sensor 14 for detecting a change in the height direction of an axle of front wheels or rear wheels of a vehicle, a non-volatile memory 26 for recording the vehicle-specific control constant, and a CPU 20 for determining whether the vehicle-specific control constant is recorded on the non-volatile memory 26 or not, calculating a tilt (pitch angle) in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle based on the vehicle-specific control constant and detection output of the vehicle height sensor 14, and generating a control signal for compensating for a change amount from the calculation result so as to control the driving of the motor. The CPU 20 carries out a calculation for the pitch angle on condition that the vehicle-specific control constant is recorded on the non-volatile memory 26 and outputs the control signal obtained by the calculation to the motor 10.
