PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk capable of preventing a fly-stiction failure, a corrosion failure and the like, suppressing a malfunction and having excellent safety even when a magnetic head floats and runs e.g. with≤10 nm floating height, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk has a magnetic layer, a protective layer and a lubricant layer formed in this order on a substrate. The surface free energyγS of the magnetic disk obtained by an expansion Fowkes formula is >0 to 24 mN/m andγSd (a dispersion force component of the surface free energy) is >0 to 17 mN/m ,γSp (a dipole component of the surface free energy) is >0 to 1 mN/m andγSh (a hydrogen bond force component of the surface free energy) is >0 to 6 mN/m, which are constituents of the surface free energyγS. In the magnetic disk manufacturing method, the magnetic layer, the protective layer and the lubricant layer are formed in this order on the substrate and after the lubricant layer is formed, the surface of the magnetic disk is treated by using a composition containing hydrofluoroether.
