PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting element in which a ridge stripe is not destroyed even if the element is mounted by junction-down, and a cave or the like is not formed in a solder layer, and to provide a semiconductor light emitting device which is mounted with the same. SOLUTION: The semiconductor light emitting element includes a laminate of semiconductors each containing an activity layer, the ridge stripe including at least a part of a waveguide which extends and protrudes in a first direction on the first main surface of the laminate and guides the wave of luminescence generated by an injection current, a dummy ridge which projects on the first main surface of the laminate at both sides of the ridge stripe, and a slit which divides the dummy ridge formed along the second direction crossing the first direction on the first main surface of the laminate.
