PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing method of a magnetic recording medium in which an error rate and an overwrite property are both satisfied in high-density recording and the magnetic recording medium to be used for it. SOLUTION: This is a recording and reproducing method for a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer which includes ferromagnetic powders and binders on a support object. The recording and reproducing method for a magnetic recording medium is characterized by satisfying (λmin/6)≤δmag≤(λmin/2) and 5°≤θ≤45°, wherein the shortest recording wavelength, an angle of an easy magnetization axis to a magnetic layer surface, and a magnetic thickness are set toλmin,θ, andδmag respectively.
