PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a movable part at a low speed even when load power produced on the movable part is small. SOLUTION: A control circuit included in an electromagnetic actuator has a coil L1, an AC power supply V2, a diode 5, and switches S1, S2. The coil L1 and the diode 5 are connected in parallel. The switch S1 is connected in series to a parallel connection of the coil L1 and the diode 5. The switch S2 is connected in parallel to a series connection of the coil L1 and the switch S1. The power supply V2 is applied to opposite ends of the switch S2. When the switch S2 is also closed in the closed state of the switch S1, a current is unlikely to flow to the side of the switch S1 where impedance of the coil L1 is existent, and hence the supply of the current to the coil L1 is substantially interrupted. At this time, the switch S1 is in the closed state, so that it is possible to prevent a current from being fed back in a loop circuit formed with the coil L1 and the diode 5.
