PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for editing a master database while improving working efficiency. SOLUTION: A master database MDB stores link information LNK between a master device file MDF and the other master device files MDF for each host controller. For example, when a management point is added to a host controller (1), or when link information LNK1 and LNK2 are changed for the host controller (1), an operator reads a master device file MDF1 and link information LNK1 and LNK2 of the host controller (1) from a master database MDB, and edits the read master device file MDF1 and link information LNK1 and LNK2 in a desired manner. Then, the operator returns edited master device file MDF1' and link information LNK1' and LNK2' to the master database MDB, and overwrites it on the original master device file MDF1 and link information LNK1 an LNK2.
