The surface properties, such as surface roughness and gloss, of a printed image on an ink-jet receiver comprising a voided polymer ink-receiving layer, especially a foamed polymer ink-receiving layer, can be improved (i.e. reduce surface roughness and increase gloss) by applying heat and/or pressure to the ink-jet receiver after printing of an image such as by the passage of the printed image through a fuser.
