The invention relates to a method of controlling a hands-free system for accessing a motor vehicle, in which a controller is provided on board the vehicle. The aforementioned controller (i) transmits messages in a short-range area around the vehicle, (ii) receives messages transmitted in a long-range area that surrounds the short-range area around the vehicle, and (iii) controls the automatic locking of the vehicle. The invention also comprises at least one badge which is carried by the user and which receives the messages transmitted by the controller and transmits messages to the controller in the long-range area. According to the invention, the controller transmits at least one maintenance message in the short-range area and, if the badge does not receive said maintenance message, the badge transmits a message in the long-range area confirming that the badge has left the short-range area. |
