PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem on the shortage of cooling capacity and heating capacity of operated indoor units when the operated indoor units are partially stopped, as the refrigerant also flows into the stopped indoor unit when the refrigerant flows into the indoor units during operation, and the heat exchanging is performed in the stopped indoor unit, whereby the indoor unit is frozen, and the refrigerant is accumulated in the stopped indoor unit. SOLUTION: This air conditioner comprises an outdoor unit C comprising a compressor 1 and an outdoor heat exchanger 3, and a plurality of indoor units A, B connected with the outdoor unit C in parallel with each other, and respectively comprising indoor heat exchangers 7a, 7b. The indoor units A, B are respectively provided with opening and closing valves in pipes at front and rear parts of the incorporated indoor heat exchanger 7a, 7b, further the plurality of indoor units A, B can be simultaneously operated, and the opening and closing valves are closed in stopping the operation.
