PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cyclophane type host molecule, easily produced, easy for introducing a functional group, and having further excellent functions as a selective separating agent, sensor, catalyst, stabilizer, etc., for various guest molecules. SOLUTION: This cyclophane type compound is expressed by general formula (1) or (2) [wherein, R1is H or an organic group; R2, R3are the same or different and are each H or an organic group; and A is a saturated or an unsaturated chain-formed hydrocarbon group, a saturated or an unsaturated 5-6-membered heterocyclic ring group having a substituent or not having the substituent, or a saturated or an unsaturated 5-6-membered cyclic hydrocarbon group having a substituent or not having the substituent].
