PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling control device for a vehicle performing deceleration control based on a following distance so as to meet the intention of a driver regarding requirement of deceleration action based on the following distance. SOLUTION: The device performs deceleration control of the vehicle based on a distance of the vehicle and a preceding vehicle. The condition for performing the deceleration control is changed by the fact that the cause of reduction of the distance of the preceding vehicle and the vehicle is either relatively and largely dependent on traveling of the preceding vehicle or is largely dependent on traveling of the vehicle. When the cause is relatively and largely dependent on the traveling of the preceding vehicle, the driver of the vehicle tends to perform deceleration operation at the timing when reduction of the following distance does not relatively make progress. Therefore, when the cause is relatively and largely dependent on the traveling of the preceding vehicle, content of the condition is changed such that the condition for performing the deceleration control is relatively early and easily established.
