The conveyor for wood in a sawmill has a transverse conveyor (14) and a longitudinal conveyor (12) with a transfer conveyor (16) between them which can be lowered so that wood can be passed to a second intermediate conveyor (24). The crossing point for the conveyors has a gauge (34) to measure the width of the wood and there is a second gauge (32) for the wood length and a third for the feed speed of the second intermediate conveyor.
