PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce luminance nearby a no-image part when a letter box signal is inputted. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device is equipped with a letter box detecting means, a lamp current control means, a boosting means of boosting the output voltage of the lamp control means, a turn-on means for a lamp which uses the output voltage of the boosting means, and a detecting means of summing up and outputting the value of the lamp current generated by the turn-on means and the output of the letter box detecting means to the lamp current control means. Through this constitution, a signal reducing the lamp current of the no-image part according to the output of the letter box detecting means can be outputted to the lamp current control means.
