PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that, when water mixes in solvent, it may damage laundry. SOLUTION: This washing and drying machine is provided with a ventilation passage having an inlet and an outlet connected to each other in an outer tub serving as both a washing chamber and a drying chamber, a blower means circulating air in a circulating air duct, a heater for heating the air installed in the ventilation passage and including a steam pipe distributing steam in its inside; and heats the air by the heat exchange between the pipe an its ambient air. This machine is further provided with a water collecting tank provided in the ventilation passage in a predetermined position between the heater and the outer tank, a water detecting means detecting the accumulation of water in the water collecting tank, and an abnormality notification means receiving the detection signal by the water detecting means and detecting the abnormality.
