PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound useful as an electrochemical fluorescent display material and electrochromic material free from side reaction, having bistability, enabling the direct control of fluorescence and free from environmental pollution and disposal problems and provide a method for producing the compound. SOLUTION: The biacridane compound is expressed by general formula (I) and the bisacridinium compound is expressed by general formula (II) (R1 and R2 are each independently H, an alkyl, an aryl or benzyl).
