A precision mounting for mounting a device which generates vibrations in a known position relative to a base and for reducing acoustic noise resulting from the vibration includes: a first rigid sheet element having a lower surface for fixing to the base and an upper surface; a block of vibration-damping material having a bottom surface bonded to the upper surface of the first rigid block and having a top surface substantially parallel to the bottom surface, the block having a height between the top surface and the bottom surface which is less than both a length and a breadth of the block; and a second rigid sheet element having a lower surface bonded to the top of the block and an upper surface for mounting of the device.
