Moving transparent and absorbent films are welded by a laser beam that is projected through a mask. Timing marks on the film (13) and the mask support roll are detected by optical sensors and the signals are used to control the drive to synchronize the mask speed with the films. Moving transparent (14) and absorbent (13) films are welded by a laser beam (9) that is projected through a mask (20). Timing marks (19, 21) on the film (13) and the mask support roll (1) are detected by optical sensors (11, 12) and the signals are used to control (17) the drive (5) to synchronize the mask speed with the films. The films are compressed in the welding zone between free-running pressure rollers (2, 6). An independent claim is also included for laser welding equipment for moving films with a synchronously driven roll (1) carrying a mask (20). The mask is coaxial with a transparent, freely-rotating pressure roller (2). |
