<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable easy character input while efficiently practically using a display area. <P>SOLUTION: When a portable terminal 1 detects the contact of the finger by a contact detection part 13, the portable terminal 1 refers to a state of a button display flag 12. When flag setting is 'on', the portable terminal 1 makes a display control part 15 display a plurality of display buttons stored in a display button storage part 14 on a display part 16. When a user of the portable terminal 1 selects the display button by button pressing-down operation through an input part 11, a character on the display button is inputted to an input area on a screen.
