PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make regulations on a screen, which are performed in a manufacturing step of an image display device, easily. SOLUTION: At first, a monochrome scope pattern 30 is displayed on a screen of an image display device 2. An image pick-up unit 11 images the screen and generates an image signal, and after it is separated into a brightness signal and a color difference signal, each signal is converted into a digital signal and recorded in a memory unit 12. Based on the brightness signal stored in the memory unit 12, a brightness signal processing unit 13 detects a change of brightness along a vertical direction of a first brightness change detection region A and a change of brightness along a horizontal direction of a second brightness change detection region B. Based on the change of brightness detected by the brightness signal processing unit 13, a position processing unit 14 detects centroids P1, P2 of the first brightness change detection region A and centroids P3, P4 of the second brightness change detection region B and detects a display position of the monochrome scope pattern 30.
