PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector in which optical utilization efficiency does not fall off sharply even in a case that smooth and good moving video indication is obtained. SOLUTION: While a position deflected to a left side in each image forming region of a liquid crystal display is irradiated with a partial light flux from respective small lenses 122 contained in the 1st quadrant region and a partial light flux from respective small lenses in the 2nd quadrant region, a position deflected to a right side on each image forming region of the liquid crystal display is irradiated with a partial light flux from respective small lenses included in the 3rd quadrant region and a partial light flux from respective small lenses in the 4th quadrant region. An illumination light flux of an illumination device 100A is converted to an illumination light flux which has cross section shape so as to illuminate whole image forming a region about a right and left direction, and nearly half of the image forming region about a vertical direction on the image forming region of the liquid crystal display. Then, the illumination light flux is scanned along the vertical direction on the image forming region synchronizing an image writing frequency of the liquid crystal display.
