PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment apparatus capable of removing nitrogen efficiently from the water to be treated. SOLUTION: This water treatment apparatus 1 is provided with: an electrolytic nitrogen removing apparatus 2 for removing a nitrogen component from the nitrogen component-containing water to be treated by electrolyzing the nitrogen component-containing water which is to be treated and is stored in an electrolytic cell to generate nitrogen gas and; an RO (reverse osmosis) apparatus 3 for separating the original water to be treated into permeated water and concentrated water by using RO units 32, 35 each of which is provided with an RO membrane and supplying the separated concentrated water to the electrolytic nitrogen removing apparatus 2 as the water to be treated. When the original water containing the nitrogen component such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen is supplied to this water treatment apparatus 1, the supplied original water is separated into the permeated water and the concentrated water by the RO apparatus 3 and the concentrated water of high nitrogen component concentration is supplied to the electrolytic nitrogen removing apparatus 2 as the water to be treated. In the electrolytic nitrogen removing apparatus 2 the concentrated water of high nitrogen component concentration is electrolyzed as the water to be treated and the nitrogen component is removed from the water to be treated.
